Diet also plays a significant role in maintaining healthy gums. Foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can bolster your immune system and thus help your body fight off infections, including gum disease. Incorporating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your diet can make a positive difference. Additionally, ensuring that you drink plenty of water throughout the day aids in washing away food particles and bacteria. Reducing your intake of sugary foods and beverages is another important strategy, as sugar feeds the bacteria responsible for plaque formation.

Another often-overlooked factor in oral health is tobacco use, which can significantly increase your risk of developing gum disease. Smoking and other forms of tobacco are known to damage gum tissue and impair blood flow, making it more difficult for your gums to heal.
